Dancing with the Stars Live Tour

As I've mentioned before, for Christmas I gave my mom a ticket to join me at the live Dancing with the Stars Tour which was held at a venue just outside of the Atlanta perimeter. Naturally, I'm not really into the show, but I figured it would be a nice way for us to have a mother-son night out, and hell, after six years of forced concert attendance at UGA and IU, I've seen enough shows that didn't truly interest me that one more wasn't going to make a difference, so no big deal.

Well, the show was last night, and although it didn't really leave a very strong impression on me (good or bad), it felt good to be able to do something with Mom that she was into, especially having also gotten the chance to have dinner with her nearby beforehand, something we rarely do with just the two of us.

Although the dancing was kinda unremarkable for me, I will say that the live band they had was both extremely well mixed and extremely talented, so much so that I often found it hard to believe they were actually playing live. Granted, there were a few occasions where they defaulted to a canned track (most notably with a track by Daft Punk that I know very well), but their renditions of other tunes were generally different enough from the original that you knew it was them playing live. Including the Daft Punk track, my other musical highlights included a brief selection from a Fall Out Boy track, "Dancing Queen" by Abba (I'm a sucker for some of those Swedes' big hits), and my favorite Queen track, "Don't Stop Me Now", which actually (very pleasantly) surprised me, being the sort of quasi-obscure track it is.

So, fun night, despite not really being up my alley. Maybe I should make this a tradition of taking Mom out to cheesy shows every year!
