Ratatouille

Yet another one of the films I got on DVD for Christmas (this time from Candace) was Ratatouille, one of my favorite Pixar films (actually, my absolute favorite before I saw Wall-E), and Candace and I watched it this past week for my third time. As much as I do love this movie, I think it has lost a good bit of its charm with an unfortunate combination of time, my separation from European culture, and the fact that I had seen Wall-E.

The first and last points are fairly self-explanatory, but perhaps the other point is a bit less so. See, I think part of Ratatouille's charm is how well it captures the European spirit, but although you would think seeing the film would therefore make me a bit nostalgic, instead I just found it difficult to relate to quite as well as I had before (it's important to note that I had seen the film twice while in Europe, coincidently right before and after I went to Paris for the first time).

So, although I still think this is one of Pixar's best films (up there with The Incredibles, Monsters Inc., and Toy Story), I'm just not so sure I love it quite like I used to.
