Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

One of the many movies I got for Christmas was yet another of Hayao Miyazaki's epic cartoons, this time his first: Nausiacaä of the Valley of the Wind. Although this film isn't as good as Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke, it's in the same epic and fantastical vein with those two films, and as such it's more in line with what I like to see in a Miyazaki film, thereby making it my third favorite of his films right after the other two. This said, you can tell it was his first attempt at this sort of movie...despite having virtually the same art studio, the same director, and the same composer, the film feels like it's trying to figure itself out (especially the music, which is all over the place). Overall, the plot was cool, the main character (yet again another strong yet feminine female, a trademark of Miyazaki's) was loveable, and the English voice acting was great.

To be honest, I fell asleep a couple times during this movie, but that was more because I hadn't gotten much sleep the night before and I was watching it by myself, laying sideways on the couch. So, I'll have to watch this film again soon, but fortunately that's not a problem, as I generally liked it a lot.
