Drag Me To Hell

A couple weeks ago, Candace and I caught Sam Raimi's new horror movie, Drag Me to Hell. Prior to it's release, I hadn't really heard much about this film and just assumed it was another one of the myriad mediocre horror films that come out these days, but once I heard that it had gotten a 93% "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes, I was very intrigued. I knew Sam Raimi had a legacy of making great horror films with a healthy dose of comedy, and although I hadn't seen any of them (I know...), I was pretty pumped to see this one.

Fortunately, it didn't disappoint at all. Drag Me To Hell was incredibly well done, managing to walk that fine line between regular horror fare and those that are self-aware, meanwhile telling an interesting story with good acting and lots and lots of "boo" moments (more than I can recall being in any other film). Now, although the film was only rated PG-13 and therefore lacked much of the blood found in other horror flicks, it still managed to shove in as many gross-out moments as it could, leaving one forgetting it was PG-13 pretty quickly. Also, it should be pointed out that the music and sound for this movie was PERFECT: it didn't get in the way at all, and the sound during the "boo"/intense moments managed to deliver a lot of the scare in-and-of-itself.

Overall, a great horror film...certainly one of the best I've seen in a long time, quite possibly since Saw. Go check it out (with your girlfriend/boyfriend if possible!).

Note: Again, sorry for the widescreen video getting cut off on my blog. I'm not sure why it's been doing this ever since the widescreen videos became the norm on YouTube. Any suggestions?
