Passion Pit @ Drunken Unicorn
So, after jamming with Jeremy, we headed over to MJQ's little rock club, The Drunken Unicorn, for the Passion Pit show that night. Passion Pit's this unique band that walks that fine line between electronic music and rock without sounding clearly like one or the other. Their singer has an amazing range and his voice is truly unique, especially when tripled slightly out of tune on their studio recordings. Prior to the show, I had had their initial EP for awhile, and then recently picked up their full length, having only come out a few weeks before the show. So, although I knew the EP much better, I was still really psyched about the show.
Generally speaking, the band put on a good show (and their opener, Harlem Shakes, was also really good), but two things kept this show from being awesome. First, the show was literally sold out, and as a result, the tiny room was almost painful to be in, being extremely crowded and hot. Then, the sound guy didn't really nail their sound, which doesn't necessarily reflect poorly on the band but doesn't help impressions that much either.
Overall, I had a good time, and it was fun hanging out with Jeremy (who later went and picked up both the album and the EP). Definitely check out Passion Pit!
