Sorry about the delay. Needed some time to decompress immediately after the trip. Unfortunately, now I have only two days to do five posts, so I better get started!
The last day of my trip was essentially a travel day with a few extra things thrown in. Here's a list of what happened:
- breakfast @ Bruegger's Bagels w/Tyler + Liberty
- after saying goodbye, meet up w/Eliza for Panera and Urban Outfitters
- start driving home
- between Cinci + Louisville, get a $170 ticket for going "12" over
- just before the half-way point, get stuck in 75 minute freak accident traffic jam
- lunch @ Panera (the first time, with Eliza, I didn't eat)
- eventually make it home
Two things:
First, the ticket. My cruise control was set to 80 mph, but I was coming down a hill, and although two other people were going just as fast around me, the cop decided to pull me over. From what I understand, he can't give me a ticket for ten over, so he bumped it up to twelve. It's possible I was going twelve over, but does that really warrant a ticket that expensive? It was obviously a speed trap though, as there were two other cops pulling people over within a quarter mile of where I got pulled over. God, I hate cops when they're just out for money... $50 would have been fine, but $170? Give me a break.
Second, the accident was not your typical accident. To my knowledge, I've never been in a traffic jam for over an hour before. And just so you know, this wasn't a constantly flowing traffic jam...rather, I was stopped dead at least twice, and the rest of the time was crawling along. It was miserable. Thankfully, I was on the phone with Joel, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. As it turns out, it appeared that some sort of gasoline truck had exploded, because there was curvy metal shrapnel everywhere at the site of the accident.
So, my trip home probably couldn't have been too much worse. And the sad thing is that had I taken 75S instead of the more scenic route via 71W and 65S that I did take, probably none of this shitty stuff would have happened.
Whatever. I'm just glad to be home now.
