Coraline
As I mentioned before, whilst in Bloomington I managed to see Coraline in 3-D with Dave at one of the local movie theatres. Despite having an average story, the film left me with a very strong impression, mostly for its visual style (turns out it IS entirely stop-motion, at least as far as I could tell from the Wiki article), character development, and music. First off, the film looks noticeably more advanced than the work that was done on A Nightmare Before Christmas (as it should), and the 3-D was absolutely fantastic. I can now see why everyone keeps praising this new generation of 3-D movies and thus endorse it thoroughly (albeit with a little bit of fear that it's going to get out of hand).
On top of this, the characters were all well-crafted and proved to be unique, despite existing in a world a bit too reminiscent of that in Beetlejuice. And, as Dave has pointed out in his blog, the music is fantastic. Usually, I post a trailer above, but the 30-second clip of John Linnell from They Might Be Giants singing the "Other Father Song" is so magical and cute that I had to embed it instead.
This movie should most certainly be experienced in 3-D in the theatre, so go check it out if you haven't already. It's not perfect, but where it excels, it really shines.
