Awesome Night at Star Bar

Last night I went to see my new favorite local band (Today the Moon, Tomorrow the Sun) play at Star Bar in Little 5 Points and ended up having a great night. The trick with the show was that it was billed as starting at 9:00, but the first band didn't go on until 10:30, and TTM/TTS was the fourth (and last) band on the bill, meaning I didn't get home until 2:00 am, despite having to teach in the morning. Fortunately, the band and I have gotten to know one another over these past few visits, and they let me hang out with them intermittently throughout the night.

As if this wasn't enough though, someone at the show recognized me from my high school days and asked if it was in fact me (you know, it can be hard to tell after all these years and all these style changes). As it turns out, he had a friend there with him who was really cool and was looking to get started with a band, having just moved back to Atlanta from NYC. As a bonus, the guy already looks like he belongs in a rock band, so as long as we jive well musically, I feel like I might have myself another band member.

Then, I started talking to some other people and ended up meeting the lead singer of another local band, Electa Villain, whose show I'm going to try to go see up in Athens sometime soon, time permitting. He and his friends were really cool (they even invited me to play darts with them), and hopefully we'll stay in touch. On top of this, the keyboardist that I might be working with for my new band was also at the show, and we chatted a bit and set up a time to jam for our first time this weekend.

So, despite having gotten very little sleep last night, I had a great time seeing the show (I always do). Can't wait for the next one!
