Views Through A Window

Well, the aerial dance show (which shared the title seen above) has come and gone, and now that I've had a full day to recover, I feel like I'm getting ready to move on. All in all, my involvement with the show included two regular rehearsals, two tech/dress rehearsals, and three performances, most of which took place within about a week's time, so you can imagine why it's a relief to be done now, despite how fun the whole experience turned out to be.

Now, although I was initially brought in to play a couple Philip Glass tracks from The Hours, my job description quickly ballooned out to include playing a 25-minute solo improv session before the show, playing four short interludes while rigging changes were being made, and acting as the one and only sound guy for the show, starting and stopping Nicole's computer between acts in coordination with various lighting cues. Thus, what began as a simple and relatively uninvolved musical addition to the show eventually evolved into something much more involved and somewhat stressful. In fact, during the first out of our three performances I made a couple noticeable mistakes but fortunately corrected them for our last two shows.

Overall, the whole experience was very rewarding, both artistically and socially, and hopefully I'll be able to be involved with future shows (perhaps even making some money in the process...?). It has even been suggested that I might compose music for the next show instead of simply playing someone else's. Could be nice for a change: using my degrees and all...
