French Graduation Party

About two weeks ago, Candace and I went to her friend Audrey's catered college graduation party at her parents' house. Actually, Audrey had graduated in December at the end of Fall semester and had already had a small party, but as it turned out, her brother also just graduated, so they decided to have a joint party. The most notable thing about this party was the sharp divide between the three groups of people there: Audrey's friends, her brother's friends, and her parent's friends, who were all French...

See, Audrey's parents are both French (as in they were born and grew up in France and moved here when Audrey was six), and although they've been here in the States for quite awhile, they've somehow managed to keep a very large body of French-speaking friends here in town. Sure, these people CAN speak English, but you might not have realized it at this party, as this was easily the closest I've felt to being in Europe since I left, despite being at a house party in the Atlanta suburbs.

Anyway, the party was pretty unique: the catered food was from an Iranian restaurant called Persepolis, the alcohol was plentiful and continuously being served by a waiter, dinner was followed by salsa dancing lessons, and there was even some drama with one of Audrey's brother's friends getting in a fight with his girlfriend there, whom he had just discovered had cheated on him recently. Good times! =)
