X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Ugh...ugh...ugh. This movie is perhaps the worst superhero movie I can remember seeing (possibly worse than Blade: Trinity). Granted, I didn't see such obvious flops as Catwoman, Elektra, and The Punisher, but still...this was pretty bad. [Note: spoilers from this point on]
First off, there are way too many tasteless/cheesy action shots in this film...I'm talking about serious cringe/laugh-worthy action shots, so many in fact that you might have thought you were watching a spoof of one of the X-Men movies. Second, the acting is generally abysmal (way too many guttural screams...think Darth Vader in Episode III), a number of roles were poorly cast, and the script is shit.
Lastly, the plot makes very little sense and many of the characters' histories are altered enough to be unforgivable (read: Deadpool is given Cyclops' optic blast ability, John Wraith's teleportation ability, and retractable adamantium katana claws). Also along these lines are Silverfox's mind-controlling ability, Fred Dukes' evolution into Blob, Professor X's supposed first class of students, and of course Wolverine and Sabretooth's dubious backstory.
The only little mercies in this film were Liev Schreiber's portrayal of Sabretooth (which was actually pretty good, I feel), and the characterizations of both William Stryker and Gambit, both of which were handled appropriately. That said, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine was as bad as it could be, which of course is a huge mistake considering this is his story.
Ultimately, I almost regretted seeing this film and can't believe they're going to try to make a sequel of it (retelling Wolverine's Japan-saga). I'm not going to buy this film, despite having all three of the X-Men movies, and I don't recommend anyone see it in the theatre. Ugh...
