Star Trek (2009)

And now we get to the good stuff. After hearing a lot of great things about the new Star Trek film and yet having to wait a couple of weeks after the release to allow me time to re-watch the older films, I was pretty pumped. And I'm pleased to report that I wasn't let down at all. Yes, The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country were great, but this film easily stood its ground against those two and might have perhaps even surpassed them...

At the risk of repeating what everyone else has said, I agree about the following things: the cast was INCREDIBLE (particularly Spock and Bones), the time-travel-based rewriting of the original story was brilliant and works perfectly, the new action-based spin on the franchise is definitely what the series needed, and the film wasn't watered down by modern money-grubbing Hollywood conventions. Sure, the Spock/Uhura bit was weird, and I was kinda on the fence when it came to some of the new-Star Wars-style CGI (damn you, George Lucas...you should have hired J.J. Abrams to do the prequels!), but this was all I could really find fault in.

Actually, I'm planning on going to see this film again with my dad ASAP, and now I'm very eager to see the sequels it will most-likely give rise to. Great job, J.J.!
