Although I still need to post my handful of pics from my New Orleans trip, I'm gonna go ahead and just cover an interesting social encounter I had tonight while supporting Jeremy's other band, Sick Figures. In addition to getting to meet Jeremy's girlfriend Megan for the first time, I also got to meet some of her friends, one of which was this crazy (and REALLY drunk) Asian guy from Philadelphia named Calvin. It was clear from fairly early on that Calvin was SUPER-drunk, but I had no idea how much this was going to end up defining the evening's events:
In addition to saying a whole lot of crazy shit, Calvin bought us all more drinks than we were interested in drinking, made some inappropriate shout-outs to the bands on stage, knocked over some guy's nice bike, inserted himself into strangers' conversations, and even pissed in the venue without closing the door, leaving his back entirely visible to everyone in the club.
Despite all this, easily the best (and worst) thing he did all night was getting into an evening-long tiff with our waiter at our bar/restaurant we hit up after the show. The thing I didn't get is why the waiter let this obviously VERY drunk person get to him, but regardless, he did, so I took it upon myself to try to calm things down by addressing the issue with the waiter privately. I think this helped, but Calvin kept being a total ass all night long, even having the balls to complain to the manager about the waiter's indignation and requesting his entire meal and drinks to be free...
Crazy night. It was one of those rare drunken encounters where it was simultaneously really funny and really awkward without clearly leaning towards one or the other. Hopefully I'll never have to deal with this guy again, but he certainly did make the night interesting!
