Well, after a rough week of travel mishaps, I'm finally about ready to get myself to the Atlanta airport (passport in hand!) to finally make it to Europe. You know, the worst part of this whole ordeal wasn't the money or the time it took getting down to New Orleans and back. No, it was the fact that I lost the five days of time I had in The Netherlands alone. Sure, I'll get to see The Hague and all my favorite hangouts when Candace and I arrive tomorrow morning and stay in the NL for three days, but it just won't be the same.
Here are some things I was forced into giving up:
- reminiscing alone
- riding a bike for exercise late at night
- taking day trips to small Dutch towns
- getting more one-on-one time with old friends
- seeing a movie at the Pathé (remember, I saw 120 there!)
- having more time to practice and speak Dutch
Most of these things are the sort of thing that just wouldn't work when traveling with my girlfriend. I mean, we COULD go see a movie, but it wouldn't mean much to her and would seem like a waste of valuable time in a foreign country where we could be doing something more unique. Anyway, I guess I'll just have to save all this for another visit sometime. Sucks, but whatever.
Let's be positive now: I still get to go to Europe! We'll still be going to something like eight or nine cities in four different countries, and I've still got about two weeks of time to take it all in! Sure, it's not what I had planned, and it did cost a small fortune to keep this itinerary, but I'm sure it'll still be worth it.
Again, not sure how much blogging I'll do, but it's looking like I'm not all that behind after all. Regrettably, I didn't get around to posting my NOLA pics, but I'm sure I can do it when I return.
