After what certainly amounts to the most serious trip I've taken since I was in China for 18 days in 2004, I'm now back from my 14-day trip to Europa. Being gone for that long can be trying for anyone, so even if the trip had been absolutely perfect I'm sure I would be glad to be home. I mean, I have a lot of great things going for me here in the States, and I guess it just took another trip back to my beloved Europe to truly understand how great home is for me. All this time since returning from The Netherlands I've been piping on about how great Europe is, how much I miss it, and how much I wish I could return, but you know what?...I don't really want that anymore, surprisingly.
Yes, Europe's great. Their food, fashion sense, lack of obesity (well, everywhere but the UK!), political views, public transportation systems, beer/wine, and open-mindedness are all great, but it's just not where I belong now. See, I've carved out a little niche for myself here in Atlanta, and surprisingly, I actually prefer it to Europe: I've got a band, I've got friends, I've got my family, I've got a decent job with plenty of stable clients, and I've even got a Democratic President in office! Yes, the States has PLENTY of room to grow, but this is what I call home now, and I have no intention of leaving.
All it took was realizing that Atlanta has something invaluable to offer me and that if I look hard enough I'll find sympathetic souls all over the place. So now that I've got this new-found appreciation for home, I better take advantage of it, starting with catching up on this blog! =)
