At this point, I've done six vocal lessons (two in July and four in August), and since the studio has a policy of going in all-or-nothing for each month, I'm taking the whole month of September off since I would have to miss most of my lessons while in Europe.
I remember my last three lessons as being a bit similar, with the exception that in the last lesson we finally started applying what we've been working on to one of my own songs. Apart from this, all three lessons shared a focus on loosening up my tension in my face and having a fuller tone with basic vowel sounds. Overall, I feel like I'm making progress (despite not making time to practice as often as I should), but sometimes I worry that what I've learned in my lessons will only be used marginally in my everyday singing, at least at first.
Singing is a funny thing in that it's the only instrument we've all been playing more or less for our whole lives, so while you can still develop bad habits on another instrument you learned when you were young, it's almost impossible not to develop at least some bad habits when it comes to your voice, mostly because you've spent the past however many years never being told how to fix them.
I'm sure it will all sink in eventually, and I trust that what we're doing is helping, but I hope I don't lose too much of the progress I've made while I'm in Europe...
