Well, despite my initial plans to stay in New Orleans for two nights, allowing for a day of sight-seeing today (Friday) before heading out tomorrow, I am now back in Atlanta on Friday evening, not Saturday. Why did I cut my trip short? Because I got what I came for (my passport) and NOLA sucked. Look, I'm sure New Orleans CAN be really great, but not when it rains REALLY hard on your one sight-seeing day, you bring your own car and therefore have to deal with their horrible road system, and you book a cheap-ass hotel across a toll bridge that's in a somewhat sketchy area.
Sure, there were a couple nice things about the city that I did get to experience, but although I went into this whole ordeal thinking positively (i.e. "well, at least I get to see New Orleans for the first time!"), by the time 3:30 PM rolled around today, all my reserve positivity had flown out the window, leaving me with a near-uncontrollable urge to get the hell out of dodge. Seriously, the combination of my hotel, driving-situation, and the rain really added up to a bad experience. Hopefully I'll get to see New Orleans the proper way one of these days, but in the meantime, I'm probably going to have a hard time not hating it a little bit.
This really has been a trio of sucky days, but hopefully we're past all that now. I've got two days left before my rescheduled trip to Europe, so hopefully that time will be enough to decompress before the real trip starts...
