Last Two Days in Belgium

Well, short post: Candace and I just finished our three day stay in Belgium. I've already written about our first day, which was in Antwerp, so here's a little update about our second day (in Brussels) and our third (Ghent and Bruges):

While it was definitely nice to see all my favorite spots again, there seemed to be something wrong with each of these last few cities that kinda marred my experience, if not Candace's as well. See, this weekend (particularly Sunday) was some sort of national holiday, so pretty much every square or important open space in town had been converted to a sort of festival complete with tents, kids' toys, etc... In addition to looking tacky in general, these mini-festivals also blocked our view of many notable sites, which was kinda a disappointment.

This said, the last thing we did in town was attend a Cirque-du-Soleil-style celebration at the Mont des Arts in Brussels complete with fireworks, dancers, a symphony orchestra and opera singer, and even some music by Philip Glass. After this, we got some nice Belgian beers and took some much-needed relaxation time.

So, Belgium wasn't quite everything I had hoped for, but at least we left it on a high note! Off to Paris!
