Ace Ventura

Note: Although this post does concern the first Ace Ventura film, I couldn't find a trailer for it on YouTube, so instead the video above is my favorite scene from the second film.

Today, Evan and I watched Jim Carrey's big breakthrough comedy, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, which Evan owns on DVD. Although I had seen this movie at least a couple times before, it had been a long time, so it felt pretty fresh this time around. The big surprise for me was how funny I still found it to be, especially considering Jim Carrey has done this sort of role a bunch of times by now. I guess it ultimately comes down to the fact that this movie captured Carrey's wackiness just as it was getting started, therefore keeping his performance from referencing any other films that came before.

So, although I wasn't blown away by it this time around, I did end up finding it better than I remembered and expected.
