Shiny Toy Guns @ The Loft

Last night Candace and I went to see one of the bands I discovered this year, Shiny Toy Guns, play live at a small venue called The Loft. Although we caught a little bit of one of the opening acts, Jonezetta, they weren't really much to write about...

But Shiny Toy Guns was. Despite the fact that they didn't come out all synthpop glammed-up like they do in their videos, they put on a great show, especially for being in such a small venue with potentially bad sound. The mix was good, song selection focused on a mix of the good tracks off their album and some new stuff, and the male singer proved he has some serious vocal chops that actually hold up live (something not to be taken for granted these days).

Overall, the show was a great deal (only $15) and was pretty well-polished, leading me to like the band even more now (although I'm not sure I liked their new material so much). Possibly the highlight of the show was seeing them rock out to Depeche Mode's "Stripped," definitely one of my favorites of theirs.
