After months of complaining about my teaching engagements in Johns Creek, I am now finally finished with any obligations there, a move which raises my quality of life despite lowering my income a little. No longer will I have to battle rush hour traffic for an hour just to get over there. No longer will I have to compromise my pay scale due to having an "employer" who gets me my work. No longer will I have to put up with poor business practices and a general lack of respect. Other than $85 a week, the only big loss I'm suffering here is the loss of perhaps my most naturally-talented/hard-working guitar student, this Korean guy named Jack who went from not knowing anything about guitar to playing 311 and Linkin Park within a few months.
The reason for the split is complicated, but the most direct cause is that the school couldn't align my three students back to back on one day, leaving it really impractical for me to try to teach all of them, mainly considering how far away the school was. The other big issue was my general uphappiness teaching there, which I sort of kindly informed them of this past week. So overall, I'm really happy with this development, as I've been wanting to break away from them for the vast majority of my time teaching there. And, with my ASYO theory gig starting up this very week, I'm not really making less money than I was before, so everything works out in the end.
