Return to Skype

Throughout my time in The Netherlands, I kept up with all of my friends back in the States via Skype, the free internet phone service. During this time, I used Skype to keep up with everyone from Dave, my friend Kelley, and some random IU friends to my parents and even my good friend Theresa and Janis when they were out of The Hague (Theresa moved back to Berlin halfway through my time there).

After I moved back home to the States though, Skype quickly fell out of use, at least until recently...

On Sunday, I reconnected with three of my best friends from the exchange program in The Hague: Christie, Marina, and Leni. Christie is currently back in Texas (near Austin), Marina is back in Vancouver, and Leni has moved to do Peace Corps work in Moldova, so this conference call (which lasted for over two hours!) was quite the long distance affair.

Then, both this past Monday and today, my best friend from the NL, Bas, got on Skype, and we caught up after not having spoken for a while. We caught up on everything from girlfriends, work, and politics, to his hopeful visit to the States sometime mid-2009.

So, although my average week won't feature this much Skyping, it's good to see I'm getting in touch with some old buddies once again. Just hearing Bas' voice made me miss the NL immensely and left me eager to show him around my home country for two weeks in the not-so-distant future, and hearing the girls talk about a possible reunion in August of 2009 got me thinking about possibly planning my return to Europe around then.
