Back With Candace =)

As you may recall, three months ago in late January, Candace and I broke up due to a growing sense that we needed time to grow individually. The breakup was peaceful though and wasn't caused by anything permanently damaging to the future potential for us to one day get back together. In fact, even before we broke up we had decided that roughly three months after our breakup we would get together to discuss whether or not we wanted to keep being single.

In the meantime, we both pursued our own interests: we both took trips (me to Bloomington/Cinci and then Vancouver, and her to Miami and booking a trip to San Diego later this Spring), we both did stuff we had been wanting to do (I worked hard on networking to get a band started and she joined a running club and took the GRE in prepartion for school applications), we both started hanging out with other people on a regular basis, and we both dated other people again (coincidentally via Match, where we met).

While I can't speak for Candace, I can say that all of this was enough for me to be able to recognize the difference between the things that needed to change in our relationship as a couple and the things that needed to change as individuals. As it turns out, I love what makes Candace and me work so well, it was just a lack of individuality on both of our parts that was spoiling the whole thing. We had gotten too insular...we weren't pursuing our own interests or separate friendships.

Now, while I don't owe my readers any justification for getting back together with Candace, I think it should be said that I thought about all of this for a long time, journaling, talking to people about it, and even regularly touching base with Candace every few weeks or so to see how she was feeling. I truly do love Candace for who she is, and although we both still need to stick to developing our individuality and to shooting for personal growth, I would rather do this with her by my side than alone.

Granted, I think we're both being a bit cautious about all this right now, and we have conceded that if it doesn't work this time we'll need to close this book for good, but right now, I think we're on track to making this work again. =) I'm happy and in love.
