Last Thursday I finally got to see Fall Out Boy perform live...it had been some time coming actually, as I had tickets to see them in April of 2007 but the date got changed last minute to a date I couldn't make due to a family emergency in the band. The show was actually a really big show, with four opening bands and an hour and a half Fall Out Boy show! The five bands were (in order) Hey Monday, All Time Low, Cobra Starship, Metro Station, and Fall Out Boy, but I only caught the last three, as I arrived during All Time Low's set and decided to get some food first instead. Actually, I was kinda surprised I had missed Hey Monday entirely, as the show supposedly started at 7:00 but All Time Low was already on by the time I got there at 7:30, meaning Hey Monday had to have played a particularly short set, especially considering there would have had to have been a set change somewhere in there as well...
Fortunately, I got to see the whole set of all the bands whose albums I owned prior to the show (the last three groups), so I didn't really miss anything. Of them, Metro Station was easily the worst, as they weren't all that exciting or musically accurate live. Fall Out Boy was fun, but they ultimately played mostly from their most recent album, which is definitely their worst. It's kinda sad really, because my favorite album of theirs is their second major release, of which they were touring in support when I initially had tickets two years ago. Oh well. Ultimately the big surprise of the evening was Cobra Starship...their set was short, but they played almost all of my favorite songs and really put on a solid crowd-pleasing show.
In the end, I'm really glad I went, but I don't anticipate going to many big stadium acts anytime soon (short of Depeche Mode in September), as I'm starting to prefer smaller venues with less over-commercialized bands (even though I truly love Fall Out Boy's music as a guilty pleasure).
