I am really tired at this point. It's 6:12 PM, Vancouver time, and I've been up since 1:45 AM Vancouver time, having only gotten 3.5 hours of sleep. That said, by the time I finish this post, I'm gonna need to head out to meet Marina for dinner/drinks at a local Japanese tapas place called Guu, so I don't have much time to act tired. Surely, I'll be going to bed early tonight, but I think I can make it through the evening.
All things considered though, I'm not sure I'm going to be alert/awake enough later to blog about my first day of traveling, so I'm going to do it now, despite not having lived out the entire day:
So, I got on the plane just fine, but unfortunately Scott and I only had about 15 minutes to enjoy the President's Lounge in my terminal, and on top of that, they weren't serving alcohol yet! (Scott says that's the only lounge in the airport that waits until 9:00 AM). Still, it was nice seeing him.
Then I took my 3.5 hour flight to Phoenix, which went by quickly, especially considering I slept for at least a third of it. After this, I killed the better part of an hour in the Phoenix airport before boarding my flight to Vancouver itself. As it turns out, I was seated next to a cool liberal couple my age from Vancouver who were super nice (although I didn't realize this until halfway through the flight when we started talking). In fact, we talked for the rest of the flight, and then, upon hearing where Marina lives (and telling me they live very closeby), they offered to drive me to her work to pick up the keys and then drive me to Marina's, all in lieu of having to figure out and pay for the bus system here!
I know this sounds like it could be a little sketchy, but they were super cool, and everything went well. I've got the guy's email address now and plan to get in touch to say thanks again and to friend them on Facebook...who knows maybe we'll hang out next time I'm here! Then I settled into Marina's place by myself (her roommate isn't here yet either), got some lunch at a deli around the corner, and cleaned up after my long day of traveling.
It certainly has been a long day, but all first days of travel like this can be draining. It'll be fun hanging out with Marina again tonight, and tomorrow I'll be refreshed and ready to tackle Victoria on my own!
