Tonight I finally got around to slaving away at my taxes, coming up with a bunch of numbers that supposedly summarize my worth, or at least as far as our government sees it. Now, although I do have an accountant who does the serious number crunching for me (actually, he's my family's accountant), I still had to do a lot of work figuring out all sorts of stuff relating to my status as a self-employed person: everything from compiling my assorted earnings (in four categories based on their source, one of which includes interest from savings and dividends off of stocks) to calculating car expenses/mileage and assorted music-related write-offs.
While this was all a royal pain in the arse, I'm sure it could be worse, so I don't want to complain too much. Ultimately, it's now up to the bottom-line number my accountant comes up with, which hopefully isn't too depressing... While other people with paychecks are looking forward to the return checks they may be getting in the mail over the next month or so, I instead just have to write one big, nasty check. Ick.
