Last night I went to see Watchmen again, this time with my friend Scott. Actually, this had been on our agendas for a long time, but we kept postponing it due to conflicting schedules. See, Scott was supposed to catch the film with Amy, Evan, and me the first time, but he had had a long week and ended up sleeping throughout the whole day, so he never made it there to join us. Now, while I loved the movie the first time, not having Scott there with us was kinda a big disappointment, as he was the only other one of us (in addition to myself) who had read the book first, thereby leaving me with no one with whom to share some conversation after the movie from an informed perspective.
Well, last night we got to do some of that, and it was nice, but unfortunately our chat was cut short by the late hour (we saw a 9:00 pm showing, leaving me dropping him off around midnight). Still, there were things that he had caught in the story (both the book and the film) that I had missed, so I definitely got something out of what little conversation we were able to manage.
And how did I like the film the second time around? Still loved it. Sure, it didn't knock me off my feet quite as well as it did the first time, but I still got shivers when the Dr. Manhattan backstory launched with Philip Glass' music, I still teared up when he tells Silk Spectre about his newfound appreciation for the miracle of life, and I still got excited with pretty much anything Rorshach was involved with. Now it's just a matter of time before it comes out on DVD and I watch it again!
