New External Hard Drive

Yesterday I took my Trekstor hard drive to MicroCenter to see if they might be able to fix it, but as you probably have guessed, they said it was most-likely dead. So, knowing my recently diminishing internal hard drive space was causing me processing issues and that I needed to retrieve my iTunes playlist (as well as needing to back-up my important files), I bit the bullet and bought a new, portable Toshiba 160GB external hard drive. The best thing about this little guy is in fact its size (it's roughly as big as an iPhone) and that it's built to withstand some bumping around (which is what presumably killed my other hard drive).

The next step was to move files onto the new drive, which as you probably know, takes a while. I've already filled up about half of its available disk space, a task which took me the better part of yesterday afternoon/evening. The really big job here though was to move all of my music from my iPod to my hard drive. See, since my collection is so big that it doesn't fit on my computer, I've always had to keep my iTunes library on my external hard drive. The problem with this was that although I had another copy of my music on my iPod itself, iPods are oddly built not to be able to drag and drop files, so you have to download a third-party iPod file extractor to do the job. So, right now I'm in the process of downloading my 45GB iTunes library to my computer, which I then will have to import into iTunes, after which I'll have to delete my old, double-instanced library items and download new album artwork.

Anyway, I anticipate it'll all be over today or tomorrow, so this brief headache isn't really too much of a big deal. I just wish I had gone ahead and replaced my dead hard drive months ago instead of spending that time music-less on my computer...
