The last post I'm going to do about my sister's wedding is about the music I composed for her recessional, based on some of my pre-existing material from a couple different sources. First off, the quartet did a great job in the wedding, and even though they had only had one rehearsal and a warm-up to learn my piece, it came off well too. Ultimately, as you might expect, I didn't really get to pay as much attention to the piece as I would have liked, but fortunately we did get some sort of recording of the whole wedding, although I haven't yet had a chance to listen to it (it might not be any good considering I'm not sure how clearly the piece was mic'ed).
But although I myself didn't get to listen to the piece all that well during the wedding, I DID get to hear a number of compliments by generally unqualified (but still very kind) listeners who loved it. Unlike the music I composed for both of my grandparents' funerals, I was decently proud of this piece, so I didn't inwardly apologize every time someone said something nice about it. In fact, one of the people most impressed with the piece was the wedding's photographer, who pulled me aside at the reception (secretly, I might add), to ask if I would be willing to meet up with his son, himself an aspiring composer of sorts, to discuss my training and what steps he should take to get where he wants to be.
Anyway, I'm glad the piece went over well, and I was certainly honored to have been asked to contribute to my sister's wedding in such a unique and special way. Maybe I'll get around to posting the recording on my MySpace page, assuming it turned out alright...
