This has been a week full of dressing up for more-or-less formal events: first Candace's crew banquet, then the ASO, and finally her graduation from Georgia State yesterday. Candace had to be lined up at the Georgia Dome well before the family needed to be there, so I met up with her family at her place so we could all walk to MARTA (Atlanta's quasi-metro system) together to ride over to the event. Upon arriving, we waited for about an hour before the 90 minute ceremony took place. The commencement address was given by none other than Andrew Young, Atlanta resident and the first African-American US ambassador to the United Nations (unfortunately, the speech wasn't all that great, but it was still nice having someone that important there). After the ceremony we all (a party of 12) headed back to Candace's place for a short bit before leaving for a leisurely dinner outside at Nava in Buckhead.
The whole day was really fun, especially considering it was my first time to meet five of Candace's family members, giving me plenty of interesting conversation. Even the graduation itself was just the right length, and being indoors, we were quite comfortable.
