Paramore Concert (Finally)

As I said in my last post, on Friday night Candace and I finally got to see our rescheduled (due to the tornado) Paramore show at The Masquerade. Upon arriving, we were surprised to see that the show was held outdoors, even though shows at the Masquerade are usually indoors (in fact, I wasn't even aware they did shows outside). The weather was surprisingly breezy and therefore cold, but it didn't rain (despite dark clouds), so all was good.

Ultimately, although the show was solid (and sadly a bit short...), it was the realization that I've grown past rock concerts that made this show special. Up until say, my Masters degree, I got pretty into rock shows, idolizing the band and really connecting with the energy of the moment. Granted, I haven't been to many shows since my undergrad, but I think somewhere along the line I just grew detached from what one might label the youthful rock spirit.

Although I do still appreciate a good rock song, it's just not the same as it used to be, even when listening in the car or at home. And yes, right now dance music is where my heart's at, and certainly that's not the most mature music out there, but I do think it's fair to say that the subject matter and musical materials used in dance music would better reflect a more mature, sexual, and sensual self image, rather than the rambunctious, naively virile, and overly subjective/self-absorbed air of rock.

I don't know, maybe this only applies to me, but I think this is a fair evaluation of why I just can't connect with the music I used to love so much. I'm sure a good discussion or two could come out of this...
