As alluded to earlier, yesterday I DJed a car show at Oglethorpe University. The show was actually a fundraiser for a scholarship some students started, so I didn't get paid for this one, but despite only DJing for about an hour and a half, it was worth it. Although the show lasted from 2-6 PM, it didn't really get rolling until 3:00, largely due to light rain. This rain also kept from my actively DJing for a bit, but during this time I just put on a continuous mix on one of my two decks kept underneath a tarp to prevent them from getting wet.
The highlight of the gig for me was when a policeman who was there to show off a mobile police headquarters housed in a large RV came over asking about a track I had just played. I was surprised for two reasons: first, I was expecting him to tell me to turn down; and second, I figured that of all the people there, the last person to listen to the kind of music I do would be a police officer. After pulling out a piece of paper and a pen to write down the name of the track, he told me he prefers Deep House over Electro, and once I gave him two of my mix CDs, he told me he would put in a good word for me with one of the managers (whom he supposedly knows) at MJQ, the number one club I would like to spin at in Atlanta! Crazy!
(By the way, my name wasn't on the poster for the event because I was brought in well after they had made the flyer).
