This is a bit behind, but on our 5-month anniversary, Candace and I went to a nice dinner out followed by an open-mic night at an upstart comedy spot in Atlanta known as Relapse Comedy Theatre. I had found this place online looking for something different for Candace and me to do, but seeing as it was pretty much the only thing going on on a random Tuesday night, I wasn't sure how great it was going to be.
Sure enough, the place was a bit underground (so much so that it was held in what appeared to be an old town hall or church), and it seemed to have been run by struggling young comics roughly my age. We arrived well before anything got started, even though we thought we were over 15 minutes late. Once things did get started, the night consisted of a bunch of amateur comedians trying their hand at comedy in front of the other comedians there...most of these people were only intermittently funny (at best), and some just rambled endlessly. I did however manage an occasional muffled chuckle, so it wasn't totally boring.
All things considered, I ended up having a great time, even if only for the experience factor of it all. Add to that the fact that we only paid $5 a person, and I didn't regret going at all (although I never plan on going back...).
