Crew Banquet

Just before Candace and I started dating, she had spent all of Fall semester (and some of this past Summer too) in Georgia State's women's crew team. Although she wasn't a part of the team this semester, she was still invited to their annual crew banquet, which was held in my part of town off the Chattahoochee River last night. Candace was nice enough to bring me along, even though I quite literally had no connection with Candace's time on the team, having never met anyone on the team or even heard much about it. So basically, last night was a sort of crash course in what she had been doing almost every day for months before we met.

The banquet was a typical dinner/superlatives/Coach's speech/serious awards/video type end of the year event, similar to what we used to do every year in my high school orchestra. Everyone was really nice and generally welcoming, even though Candace hadn't been on the team this semester and they certainly hadn't seen me before. Overall, despite the fact that there were a lot of inside jokes and other things said I couldn't relate to, I really enjoyed getting to be Candace's guest, as this gave me a chance to get to know her world before meeting me a little bit better, as well as getting to learn about something that constitutes a memorable and significant part of her undergraduate experience.
