DJ Mix 3

Today, after MANY hours of work (spanning eleven days since my initial live recording), I have finally completed my third DJ mix. I'm actually a bit exhausted from the whole thing, but I've listened to it 1.5 times in the car already and am definitely proud of it. This mix took WAY longer to finish than the last one (which itself took way longer than its predecessor), largely due to my growing familiarity with employing Ableton for mixing and the resultant perfectionism with the details this enables. This said, I really hope that whenever I end up tackling DJ Mix 4, it won't take significantly longer than this one...I just hope I've reached the limits of reasonable perfectionism with these mixes, as I'm not sure I can make it through another session this tedious.

Fortunately, I believe the focus on the tiny stuff ended up making this mix sound more natural than either of the other two, which is ultimately the point: it's my goal to make each of my 14 tracks feel like they belong together and to blur the lines between their beginnings and endings. Overall, I feel that with each successive mix I make I end up assimilating my previous experiences of both making these mixes and DJing live, enough so that it's fairly clear from mix to mix that I'm growing, which is always a very rewarding feeling.
