At the Driving Range

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my dad recently expressed an interest in spending more time with me, as seen in his desire for me to teach him guitar. Well, another apparent display of this sentiment has been our mutual attempts for me to learn golf so we can share that as well (he loves golfing). So, for Father's Day and his birthday, I essentially gave Dad a voucher that I would pay for us both to go golfing a few times.

Little did I know Dad would take this as seriously as he has: despite the fact that I had a set of old lefty clubs available to me via my uncle, Dad got so caught up in all this that he went out and bought me a new set (along with shoes)! Honestly, as nice of a gesture as this was, I was a little overwhelmed, as I wasn't quite sure how into golf I would end up being once I learned.

Anyway, after a few weeks of putting off doing anything about it, the other day we started by Dad showing me how to chip a little. Then, on Friday Dad and I finally made it out to the driving range, where we focused on making drives with mostly irons, followed by a bit of putting, which I was significantly better at. I think I did alright for my first time out, but I've got a lot of growing to do, especially in terms of keeping my focus and in having more control.

All this said, despite being exhausted after no more than a couple hours of driving, I had a pretty good time looking back on it and am looking forward to refining my swing. It'll be a while before we hit the actual golf course, probably in the form of playing only nine holes at first, but the driving range is fun enough for now, so I'll probably go back sometime in the next week or so.
