Teeth
In the past 24 hours I've seen two movies that I would like to blog about, so expect another movie post shortly after this one.
Last night, after putting it off for a long time, Candace and I finally rented the artsy B grade horror flick, Teeth, which tells the story of a girl who is both an extremely Christian abstinence promoter and yet also happens to have teeth in her vagina that prey on unsuspecting sexual intruders in easily imaginable and disturbing ways (how she gets into these situations isn't so predictable though).
Despite how ridiculous this all sounds, this film is actually quite artsy (it premiered at Sundance where it received high acclaim), and although it IS a B grade horror film on the surface, it's really a commentary on our abstinence culture (and the type of environment that fosters it) within a sort of satire of the B grade horror flick genre.
I had been really excited about this film for a long time, so my expectations were a bit high, but it didn't let me down at all: although I wouldn't say it was incredible or a must-see, I did like it more than I was expecting and was pleased with the blend of horror, social commentary, and comedy that the director so seamlessly managed to present.
