Sex and the City: The Movie
After about six weeks of putting it off, Sunday evening Candace finally went to see Sex and the City: The Movie, realizing that although ever since it had come out she had wanted to see it with someone who shared her love for the show more than I did, time was running out to see it in the theatre, so she settled with me (despite my assertion this whole time that I wouldn't mind seeing it with her). As you can probably imagine, I'm not really a big fan of the show, but I have seen it from time to time and know the characters and the way the show worked.
Ultimately, the story was fine, and I got involved in it, but there wasn't anything in the film that really seemed to say "this story could have only been told in the cinema, not on TV." So, I guess I'm juding it more as a TV mini-series than a true movie, and in that regard, I think it succeeded just fine. If you ask me though, the actors' time away from one another really seemed to show here, as their on screen chemistry seemed a bit lacking.
All the normal things you expect from the show were there: Carrie's horrendous clothing, plenty of fairly gratuitous sex scenes, lots of focus on New York lifestyle, and all the stereotypical over-characterization (particularly of the other three women) that we've come to love about the show. In my opinion, the trailer above gives away a little too much about the movie, but ultimately, I suppose it's the relationships between the characters rather than the events that take place that really made this show so popular, so I guess no amount of spoilers would really ruin the film for true fans.
