Athens with Candace

Candace and I got back from our first trip to Athens together yesterday, and it was a blast! It couldn't have gone better. For our first day, we did lunch at a fairly authentic döner kebab place, shopped around downtown Athens, toured the campus (even meeting some of my teachers from the music school), did dinner at a local vegetarian restaurant (The Grit), saw the CORE modern dance show (which featured music I had prepared), talked with the people there after the show, and since Candace had never done the downtown scene there, we did a 5-location bar hop that was super fun (one of my favorite things we've done together).

On our bar hop, I tried to make sure we hit up as many different kinds of bar as possible. We started with a martini/wine bar (The Winery), then went to a kind of loft/chill spot (at least at that hour - Allgood), followed by a top 40 dance bar (The Loft), after which we dropped in a hip, indie, underground place with a live indie/electro DJ (Rye), ending with a beat-up hick bar (El Centro). And of course, after all of this, we hit up The Grill for some sobering up.

The Travelodge was actually better than expected and certainly worth the money. The next morning we got breakfast at yet another vegetarian restaurant (The Bluebird Café) and shopped a tiny bit before returning home.

Overall, a fantastic trip! So glad everything came together so well! =)
