DJing Rye Bar

Well, last night was my Rye Bar debut, and it was interesting. My gig started with the local (presumably fraternity) band Mama Said, who had brought with them a generous amount of frat boys and their sorority girlfriends to the show. They played just past midnight, so I had to set up hastily (and to the side of the room) while they tore down. I got to DJ for just short of two hours, and my audience varied widely from moment to moment. At first, the frat kids stood around, but as soon as the band had cleared out, there was virtually no one there, so I started playing more chill stuff.

Later on though, to my surprise, one of my CORE friends came to the gig with her boyfriend, who brought with him his group of dance music fanatics. Naturally, this was the highlight of the evening, and I even got asked to DJ a Chi Phi gig here at UGA (what is it with Chi Phi members being into real dance music?). Overall, the gig was fun, and I even got paid a little bit ($30). Still, I was worn out by the end, especially considering we had to travel to get there.

One final note: as I mentioned before, I had promoted fairly widely through Athens a few days before the gig, and my work resulted in a short but very nice blurb in the local paper, the Athens Banner-Herald. Click here to see it.
