A Half Year Home

I have now been back in Atlanta from Europe for six months now, so I thought I would take a look back at how the six months have gone:

In general, I would say my time home has been MUCH more successful than anticipated.

First off, I actually LIKE Atlanta. As you may know, upon first moving here I was CERTAIN I wanted to move away, thinking Atlanta would be like some sort of horrible limbo. Fortunately, I've fallen in love with the city and am very happy to be here.

Secondly, I have managed to jumpstart my social life here, finding both friends and a serious relationship. Expecting this to be difficult here was one of the main reasons I wanted to move to Bloomington, thinking my past social circles would provide the friendships I needed. Add to this that I've learned that finding a serious relationship is nearly impossible to make happen in any given amount of time and I would say I've gotten way more out of the social scene here than I ever expected.

Thirdly, I've managed to get a decent career going teaching private lessons. Sure, it's taken some time, and I've got some debt to pay off, but I'm still doing WAY better than I would have predicted, plus I have plenty of room for more students.

Finally, I have recently started getting as close as I've ever been to having a real freelance commercial music career (in the form of DJing). I've got a number of gigs lined up for the near future and hopefully even more once I start making more contacts. More on this tomorrow.

Overall, things are fantastic. I just need to make some more money, move out of the parents' place, and I'll be set! What a great six months!
