Persepolis
Last night I FINALLY got around to seeing the French language artsy black and white cartoon film, Persepolis. The film is based off the graphic novel by the same name, which tells the story of a young Iranian girl coming of age during the tumultuous Iranian revolutions of the past forty years or so.
I had high hopes, as the film looked beautiful and well-done from the trailer (plus, it had very high critical praise). Unfortunately, although the film was in fact beautiful and the characters were often quite endearing, it ultimately lost my attention. But maybe this is just a first viewing thing, as I was expecting it to continue exploring the Iranian revolution and conservative regime side of the story, not following the often unrelated story of the protagonist (and author).
In the end, I think this film is worth seeing: it's well done, but it just didn't leave me as impressed as I had hoped...
