Last night Candace and I rented Mulholland Drive for both of our first viewings. Never before have I seen a film quite as quasi-screwed up as this, and even though I was generally unsettled and eager for it to end the whole way through, in retrospect, I think I liked it a lot. I kinda want to see it again, even if only to understand it better.
My favorite scene from the film (as well as the first video to pop up on a YouTube search for the movie's title) concerns these two men whom we have yet to meet (and kinda never do) meeting at a local diner to discuss one of their nightmares. Candace and I were both startled by this scene (I'm almost certain Candace still is...), but it doesn't seem to work as well outside of the film. Still, here it is:
