First Club DJing Experience

This coming Friday, I will be the opening DJ for my first official club gig. Two other Atlanta-based electro DJ's (DJ GirlyBeats and DJ Voytech) will be spinning at Club Europe's Platinum Room, and I've been asked to start the evening off with a one hour set (they'll probably be doing 2 hour sets). This is a big deal for me in many ways. First off, professionally speaking, this is the closest thing I've had to a big break in getting my name out there. Up until this point, we've pretty much been talking about house parties (including the Oglethorpe fraternity and the beach party in The Hague).

There are a couple of other big stressors for this evening beyond being my first club gig. First off, it'll be the first time I have to use someone else's DJ equipment. See, the standard procedure for playing at clubs is to use the club's setup, which usually consists of Pioneer CDJ1000's, tables I've never used before. To practice, I'm going to have to drop by Guitar Center a couple times this week to get used to these tables. The second stressor is that I need to make a mix CD to hand out at the gig, something I've never done before. So, I've got three days to do so...hopefully I can make it professional enough... =)
