Using Tags

When I was doing my Holland blog, I started using tags for each post (if you're not familiar with tags, they are words attached to each post that are usually used to help categorize what the post is about, for example: movies). Anyway, after some time, I started finding these to be frustrating, as they weren't efficient enough to handle the multitude of topics I was covering. Plus, I had only started labeling posts about a third of the way into my blogging, so I was a bit behind if I was to be comprehensive.

So, when I started this blog, I decided not to use tags for the very same reasons. Well, the other night, I finally caved in and labeled every one of my eighty-plus posts I had done thus far, and although this shows a certain lack of personal integrity, I do have to say I think my tags are much more efficient than before. Sometimes it IS hard to put a post into one single category, but I think I've done a fine job focusing on the heart of each post.

For example, the day Candace and I tried to go to the Atlanta Symphony to hear John Adams' Transmigration of Souls but ended up going to improv night at Dad's Garage, I was debating whether to label it 'music' or 'culture'. In the end, I went with 'culture' because I felt what we actually did turned out to be more cultural than musical, despite our initial intentions.

Anal, I know... =)
