I've had bad luck with my DJ equipment. Every single piece of my original DJ setup (2 Numark CDXs and a Behringer mixer) have needed to be fixed at least once, despite the fact I bought them all new. My mixer was the first to go, about two or three years ago. Fortunately though, it didn't cost all that much to replace. Then it took a while for anything else to breakdown, but as soon as it did, it all started going to hell. First, one of my two CDXs had some major motor problems and needed a $500 repair (including shipping). Then not too long after that, my other CDX had some serious electrical problems and no longer works. Finally, crazy as it is, the CDX that I JUST had repaired for more than half of its original cost started having electrical problems too! Now, neither of them work.
Fortunately, I got a fantastic deal on a Vestax CDX-05, a cd player which isn't perfect but was marked down to a ridiculously low price due to a new model replacing it. This has been holding me down since mid-December, and I was alright because up until recently at least one of my Numarks was working. And, even though I recently lost both of my Numarks, my recent gigging has involved using Platinum's equipment, so I didn't need mine to be working.
Well, now that I've got this gig at Rye, I had to come up with something fast, so after unsuccessfully searching for another Vestax, I ended up buying a new Denon DN-S1000. It's a bit more than I can afford (although half as expensive as those damned Numarks), but it's a reliable brand, has a lot of great features, and is probably the best turntable I've had thus far. There's a chance I'm just going to return this one for a full refund, but I think I'm going to sell my Mesa Boogie guitar amp that I never use to make enough back to pay for it...
