Bloomington Trip 4.2

My first full day in Bloomington was certainly very mixed. I got off to a late start, waking up around 11:00, and after hanging out for a bit, Dave, Carla, and I went to the Bloomington Bagel Company for brunch. After returning from this, we basically chilled at their place for a long stretch, during which time Dave and I played some Magic and I worked on a Philip Glass "arrangement" for Zephyr. Dinner time soon rolled around, for which Dave and Carla prepared chicken kebabs followed by caramelized peaches for dessert. After dinner, Dave and I played some more Magic, and then we all got ready to head out for a night of karaoke at the local townie bar, The Office Lounge.

Joining us at karaoke were my friends Abby Shupe and Mark Chilla, and all of us managed to sing at least a song or two. Unfortunately, after I sang my second song ("Come On Eileen"), I had a brief but really uncomfortable run-in with some asshole townies sitting next to me who (to me) seemed to be mocking my effeminate vocal range, presentation, and song choice. Whether or not I misinterpreted what they said, they got really close to threatening me (after I told them I didn't appreciate their seemingly homophobic gestures), and the resultant discomfort I felt for the remainder of our time there was enough to cause Dave to suggest we move on to somewhere else. The somewhere else was Nick's English Hut, which was fun (and a whole lot less frightening) followed by some delicious Rockit's pizza (for the second night in a row).

Overall, today was pretty chill and decently productive, even though the evening was a bit tainted with my Office Lounge experience. I'm sure tomorrow will be better though, and tomorrow night should be much more subdued.
