Tonight was simply awesome. In addition to being our second (mostly)-full band rehearsal (we didn't have Emily the new keyboardist join us due to needing to teach her more parts first), we tried out the third drummer I've worked with thus far, and it went SO WELL. The rehearsal was at Doug (our bassist's) place since they already have a whole room set up for band rehearsals with his Sublime cover band and since the drummer we were auditioning is the drummer from that band as well and therefore has a drum kit already at the house. In addition, Doug also had a powered speaker with an XLR input for my mic, so we were able to play the whole thing with my singing very clearly amplified (for the first time in any rehearsal I've had thus far).
The drummer (Brady) got most of the material within a couple passes, and he was a natural at the Indie Dance-Rock style, having wanted to play in a band like this for awhile now. To make things even sweeter, he's also a Philip Glass fan (he just got the entire Qatsi Trilogy!), and he's a very solid drummer. Now, in addition to having the chance to play with a drummer who really complimented our music, the most fun part of the evening for me was actually occasionally dropping what I was doing on synth parts and just singing, a decision which ultimately allowed for me to shine a bit as a charismatic frontman, dancing along to the music and really getting into it.
Overall, this was easily the most fun I have had with the band thus far, and I see it as a big turning point proving that this really can go somewhere! So exciting!
