3rd Band-Recruiting Rehearsal

Note: Until I say otherwise, just assume that everything I'm blogging about happened about two weeks ago.

Okay, so having already auditioned a keyboard player and a guitarist, my next band member to audition was a bassist. The person I had had in mind for a long time was my old undergrad double bass major colleague Doug, who now plays in the local Sublime cover band in addition to teaching privately, like I do. Although we had been in touch for awhile about putting something together, it took us a few months to actually make it happen, but our resulting time together catching up and sharing musical perspectives and ideas really clicked, and hopefully Doug is now onboard with the group.

In addition to being classically trained (and therefore understanding music theory better than most people outside the classical realm), Doug has lots of experience performing live, has a fair amount of bass and synthesizer equipment, listens to a lot of the same bands as the rest of the guys in the group thus far, and is used to dealing with booking agents and managers, essentially being the guy who does all the business work for the Sublime cover band. Overall, I think Doug will be a vital addition to the band, and I'm looking forward to working with him. Things are starting to take shape!
