This past Sunday (see, I'm getting closer to catching up!), Jeremy and I met up with our prospective keyboard player, who was actually the very first person I met with about the group (all the way back in mid-March), to see if he was still interested in the group. Over the weeks leading up to this rehearsal, I had been getting the feeling that he might not ultimately be that interested in our style, but I thought it was worth trying him out again now that we had a better idea of what the group would sound like.
Although Mike was nice enough to drag a bunch of equipment over to my place to join us for a little band show-and-tell, he didn't end up staying long, as we realized fairly early on that this wasn't really a match. Ultimately, he is really committed to his day job and is only willing to start working with a band creatively if it's a bit more up his alley, which is to say more hard-rock electronica, which we certainly aren't. Still, he was really nice about what we had going on and offered to play backup keys as a sort of hired gun were we to be unable to find a more appropriate keyboard player early on.
So now I'm in the process of searching for the ideal keyboardist: a female who can both play some keys and do some backup vocals. One of the problems with me having a high voice is that pretty much none of the guys in the band right now can sing higher harmonies, so a girl would certainly solve that problem. I'll let you know how that develops. As I type though, I just got word of a girl I know possibly being interested, so maybe it won't take so long after all...?
